Classic Mercedes W111 Restoration

Well with the racing calendar suspended we had to find a diversion for idle hands. Enter a 1965 Mercedes W111 in need of a ground up restoration.

With only 56,000 miles and 3 previous owners – all in the same family – this beautiful saloon was too good to let go. We’re starting a  full ‘rubber up’ restoration here in our workshop.

The Mercedes-Benz W111 was a chassis code given to a range of Mercedes-Benz vehicles produced between 1959 and 1971, including four-door sedans (1959-1968) and two-door coupés and cabriolets (1961 to 1971). Their bodywork featured distinctive American-style tailfins that gave the models their Heckflosse nickname — German for “fintail”.

The Beast Lives

After cleaning the fuel system and adding fresh petrol. The Mercedes W111 Restoration Project car started after a couple of cranks. The initial good news is that the oil pressure is exactly where it should be. Now we know the engine is good, we’ll remove and rebuild it. See the full post for the video.
